January 2021 with Precious Pics | Annual Wedding & Engagement Report | Photography & Videography, wedding photography by Precious Pics

January is the quietest wedding month of the year in the US. Most couples don't pick January on purpose — they pick it because it's either the start of a tax-year moment or the only Saturday the family could all fly in. Which means the January weddings we cover skew smaller, more intimate, and often more interesting than the July-August rush.

Here's what January 2021 looked like at Precious Pics. Seven couples, five weddings, two engagement sessions, four states.

1. Maryam & Ali — Washington, DC

A home wedding in January. Eight-hour Photography & Videography Collection. Classic styling, bright-and-airy edit. Home weddings in DC winter mean you're committed to interior coverage — which is actually the easier assignment when the house has good natural light.

2. Krizia & Andy — Miami, FL

The full-stack Miami wedding — 8-hour Collection, drone upgrade, separate engagement session. Shot at Icon's Residence and Longan's Place. Outdoor with rustic elements, vibrant edit. January in Miami is the easiest version of South Florida to photograph: dry season, low humidity, afternoon light you can trust.

3. Jessica & Edgar — Homestead, FL

A 9+5 hour coverage day at The Old Grove — a longer-than-usual day that fits the scope of a military wedding with formal elements on both ends. Classic with art-key and candid accents. Vivid and warm edit.

4. Cassis & Jeremiah — Indian Rocks Beach, FL

A 4-hour beach wedding with drone coverage. Candid with art-key elements, light-and-airy finishing. This is the low-commitment version of a Florida wedding — short coverage, open beach, minimal setup. It works if you don't have a large guest count and want the ceremony and a short portrait window, nothing more.

5. Grace & Ben — Alexandria, VA

Cathedral ceremony at St. Thomas More, reception at Landini Brothers — a classic Alexandria pairing. 8-hour Deluxe Photography, two photographers. Classic, elegant, romantic with candid moments. Light, airy, warm edit. Winter cathedral ceremonies lean on interior architecture; the stained-glass light on this one carried half the frames.

6. Marissa & Cody — Clifton, VA (engagement)

A late-afternoon engagement session at Peterson's Ice Cream Depot — the old converted depot building with the hand-painted signage. Two-hour window, 3:30 to 5:30pm. Winter shoulder light.

7. Kaela & Joey — Tacoma, WA (engagement)

Morning engagement at Owen's Beach in Point Defiance Park. 8:30 to 10:30am — early morning on the Puget Sound gives you the softest light of the day, especially in January when the sun stays low. Low tide at Owen's opens up the sand bar; high tide cuts the location in half.

That was January.

The slow month. Small guest counts. Warmer pockets in Florida, colder ceremonies in DC and Virginia, and the Pacific Northwest doing its usual moody-blue version of winter.

If you're planning for next January — the advantage is availability. Peak-season Saturdays fill 11 months out. January Saturdays fill 4. Start a conversation here.

Sincerely yours, Precious Pics
