Washington is a city that photographs differently than anywhere else, and shooting a wedding here means knowing its rhythms. Golden hour off the Tidal Basin in early spring, with the cherry blossoms hitting peak bloom for barely a week and the Jefferson Memorial behind you, is one of the best 30 minutes of light in the country, but the crowds are real and the permit window is narrow. We plan portraits around it. A ceremony at the Mellon Auditorium catches hard midday light through 40-foot windows; a Georgetown rooftop at dusk gives you the Potomac and the Key Bridge going gold.
The federal city has logistics no other market does. Motorcades close streets with no warning. Security around the monuments and the Mall shapes where you can and can't set up. Summer humidity fogs lenses the second you step outside an air-conditioned hotel, we carry the gear and the timing to handle it.
