Amanda was working a Saturday shift at the restaurant where she waited tables. Robert had come in with his best friend TJ to catch up; TJ did most of the talking. Later that night, Robert found her on Instagram. The rest — including a Fourth-of-July proposal on a Bahamas balcony — is what Amanda and Robert tell in their own words below.

We filmed their modern-rustic wedding at Rosewood Farms in Maryland and asked them to walk us back through how they got there.

How they met

Amanda: I was working. Rob and his best friend TJ — the best man — came in to grab a bite and catch up. It had been a while. TJ did most of the talking while I waited on their table. Later that night Rob found me on Instagram. And the rest is history.

The proposal

Amanda: We booked a trip to the Bahamas. We'd been there a few days and it was the Fourth of July. We'd just finished watching the fireworks and went back to the room. He was waiting on the balcony — on one knee, proposing.

Once you came into my life I knew you would be my person. You are kind, thoughtful, and have the sweetest heart of anyone I have ever known — and you are a little funny too, sometimes. You are so unbelievably handsome. To me, you are perfect in every way — until you put your sticky feet on me in bed.

All jokes aside, I am proud of the man that you are, and I honestly believe that you make me a better person. The way you love me is unlike anything I have ever known or even knew was possible.

You make me feel safe, loved, accepted, and appreciated. You see me for who I am — at my best and my worst — and still decide to love me. Being in your arms is my favorite place, and our three kisses is my favorite thing. Our love has always been so simple, which is what I love so much about it. You make it easy to love you.

You are going to be the best father — to our humans, I mean, because you're already the best dog dad to our little Louie. You are my best friend, and I am so happy that I get to call you my husband and experience life with you. I love you.

Where do I start. You are beautiful inside and out. You are smart and determined. You are genuine, and the most selfless person I have ever met.

And sometimes you are a little funny too.

I love this life we have created together. We've made so many unforgettable memories already, and I cannot wait to grow our own little family, and watch you become the best mother ever when we have our little humans.

I am the luckiest man alive to be able to call you my wife. I love you.

Building the day

Amanda: I stalked wedding venues before Rob even proposed. I'd had a Pinterest board for every detail of our wedding a year into dating him. Call me crazy, but I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.

We were going for a modern/rustic feel, and Rosewood Farms was the perfect fit. We didn't want a venue that was over an hour away, so transportation wasn't a struggle for our guests. We did a hotel block and a motorcoach to and from the venue to make it more convenient.

The style was a lot of greenery — but not too much. Candles spread throughout the ceremony barn, cocktail hour, and the reception barn. I wanted a timeless, romantic feel.
